Not so hateful Holidays

Not so hateful Holidays

You lay in bed bawling like a baby. You reread your text messages and listen to his favorite song. You even wear his sweater and fall into a depressive state. You reminisce about everything you have been through with him. The good days and the bad days you had replay in your head constantly. At some point, you stopped believing that love exists.

Then one random day, you get a text from a new guy saying, “Hey, I think you are cute.” You’re instantly back to giving your phone a side-eye, wondering if this is real. A confidence boost comes along and you start feeling good about yourself again. All this while you start talking to the new person once a week. From there, you start facetiming every day and are completely enamored by this man. You then realize that Valentine’s Day is not a scam.

It is not the day that many have come to dread because they are lonely. It is, however, a holiday of love and cherishment.

According to swnsdigital.com, “More than four in five Americans genuinely love the holiday even more so than Christmas.”

Valentine’s Day is celebrated because of the death of two men called Valentines. According to history.com, Emperor Claudius said young men were better off single and told them not to marry, but they did it privately. After Emperor Claudius found out, he beheaded them both and Valentine’s Day was celebrated to commemorate the men’s deaths. A year later on February 14th, they began the memorial for the two Valentines. Their love was so strong for the women they secretly married that they would rather die than be without them.

Valentine’s Day is usually celebrated by couples, with expensive gifts, lavish dinners, and fancy flowers. However, when you really think about it, you realize it is a day of love. Not just romantic love, but love for your friends, family or loved ones.

According to Time Magazine, “Valentine’s day in Europe is called Friends Day.” Every country seems to celebrate the holiday differently.

Love is a wonderful thing. That is why Noah built a house for Allie in the Notebook and why Jack saves Rose from her abusive fiancee on the Titanic. Whether you are in love with someone, have tons of friends, or are lonely, know that there will be someone out there for you. Just wait because that is how I got my perfect person.
