- Computers are a major contributor in today’s society and a massive part of what made computer teacher, Fahad Ali, the man he came to be.
As a 10 year old child who happened to be interested in video games he would sit in front of an old boxy computer that his cousin owned and would open up GTA Vice City. This first interaction with technology would not only increase his interest in just video games but would eventually spark his love for computers and what would come to be his career.
Ali did not always want to become a teacher. However, over the years he realized that it is like killing two birds with one stone.
“One, you still get to retain your experiences as well as your technical skills,” said Ali. “Two, you become a better effective communicator with your students, right?”
Teaching gave him the opportunity to not only polish his own skills as a techie, but also to allow him to effectively share what he knew about computers to his students.
As much as he loves teaching, what he loves the most is the element of surprise that it brings to his everyday life since every student brings their own unique personality to the classroom. Because of the interesting personalities he encounters every day, Ali strives to make all of his classes fascinating and engaging. In order to make his classes more engaging, he likes to make students demonstrate what they learn by giving them a website to code and allowing their creative minds to run and create their own projects whether it be applications or websites.
Outside of school, Ali continues to work on technology projects of his own. He is currently developing a website for his classroom so students can access materials and complete work in one place.
“I’m working on a website for our classrooms… it would be easier for me to explain to my students, rather than try to familiarize myself with two different other platforms” said Ali.
Through his teaching, Ali hopes students will become more comfortable with technology and maybe even discover an interest in computer science themselves.
