Puerto Rican Artist Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio better known as “Bad bunny” is this year’s featured artist performing at the Superbowl LIX halftime show. While the latino community is overjoyed with him being chosen, president Trump and his supporters are not pleased with him performing.
The controversy regarding his performance is fueled by the xenophobic views held by MAGA. One of the issues they claim is the language barrier as those who do not speak Spanish will not be able to enjoy the show. They believe that picking a hispanic artist to perform is inconsiderate to the millions of Americans who tune in to watch the game and an American artist would’ve been the better choice. While others claim that the majority of people do not know who the artist is despite the numbers indicating he is one of the biggest artists in the world.
Newsmax’s Greg Kelly believes that Bad Bunny hates America.
“da Bunny hates America, hates President Trump, hates ICE, hates the English language! He’s just a terrible person,” said Kelly.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem also disagreed with the NFL’s choice by stating that “people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they’re law-abiding Americans who love this country.” She also promised that ICE would be present all over the 2026 Superbowl.
After receiving backlash, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the organization’s decision, stating that this was carefully thought out and that Bad Bunny “is one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value.”
Regardless of the controversy one thing is for sure, on February 8, 2026 Bad Bunny will fill the stage with the Caribbean sights and sounds that have brought countless amounts of joy to his fans worldwide.
