“Head, shoulders, knees and toes” is a traditional children’s song that teaches kids about parts of the body. That song has now become out of date as it seems as though everyone is aware of those parts, displaying it for the entire world to see.
As society progresses, it seems as though young-men and women feel the need to dress up. Ironic as they are doing the opposite and wearing less items of clothing to appear older. If your goal is to be perceived as older and more mature, here is a word of advice, wear clothes that cover your body. That is the point of clothes.
According to Slow Fashion Movement, “Fashion enables self-expression through clothing choices, reflecting personality traits, such as; introversion/extroversion, creativity/conformity, sensory preferences, and emotional wellbeing.”
Fashion is very subjective, what one might like another might dislike, but when it comes to scandalous clothing, there is a time and a place. If you are attending school and are not considered an adult, it is not your time to be dressing in such “fashion.” Two pieces of fabric that are hardly covering your body are not clothes, and there is no place to be showing up to school in that attire.
According to Bethesda Magazine, “One thing that has changed is how much our children are inundated with pop culture,” says Dr. Kay Abrams, a clinical psychologist in Kensington who conducts local parenting workshops and therapy groups for adolescent girls. “Kids are inundated with images and culture in a way that we weren’t. There wasn’t as much exposure to sex, sexuality and sexy things.”
With the widespread use of social media, modesty has been far forgotten, and revealing clothing has become the norm, but one can dress up modestly and hit all the targets they are attempting to by dressing controversially, whether it be getting someone’s attention or feeling confident in yourself. It is always good to get complimented about your appearance as well as feel good about yourself, and that can occur even when you are not showing half of your body.
