Summer fashion recycles old styles in new colors

by Tatyana Reed

Summer fashion is revolving, with old styles from a few years ago coming back, according to permanent substitute teacher Dolores Bullock.

“[Fashion], it revolves, it just goes in a circle. What was in last year is not in this year, but will be in two or three years, probably in different colors,” Bullock said.

According to interviews with students, crop tops will be in for girls and cargo shorts or trouser pants will be in for boys this summer.

The main thing, though, that will be in for everyone is Jordans and/or expensive things. Flashy and expensive things is a trend that will probably never go out of style, according to junior Miah Parran.

“People only wear things that are expensive or valuable; valuable stuff doesn’t go out of style,” Parran said.

On the other hand, while many teens like to be flashy, senior Jhoeann Domingo said she prefers to dress comfortably at reasonable prices for the nice warm weather.

“I don’t like to spend 60 bucks on one t-shirt. I just shop in little boutiques in New York,” Domingo said.

Crop tops were in style in the 80s and came back when Britney Spears wore them in the early 2000s. They sprung into fashion once again last summer and will definitely be in style this summer.

“Exposed midriffs have been flexed for several seasons now, and spring/summer 2014 sees the trend explode,” according to vogue.co.uk.

According to junior Erin Colclough, girls wear crop tops to make a fashion statement.

“It’s a fashionable way to keep cool in the hot weather,” Colclough said.

According to sophomore Brandon Wright, his tip for summer style is to “make sure you match and don’t do too much.”
