Did you take care of yourself today? Taking care of your body and mind is very important, especially on hard days when you know you are about to be working and have to lock in on certain things. When it comes to our mind, our emotional, psychological, and social well-being are all parts of our mental health.
According to mentalhealth.gov, “Mental health influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Additionally, it influences how we respond to stress, interact with others, and make decisions.”
Every period of life, from childhood and adolescence to maturity, is vital for mental health. Not only is it important to look after our mental health, but we also need to remember to look after our physical health.
Work out when you can. Go for walks, run, play or sport or even hang out with some friends. Remember to also take care of the things that make you feel good such as hygiene.
Knowing that you constantly smell and look wonderful is a good feeling that also benefits your mental health.
UACHS Junior Chahinaze Mama shares how she takes care of herself physically daily.
“I take care of myself by brushing my teeth and doing my skincare, and hair,” said Mama. “I then go on with my day trying to maintain a positive attitude.”
A lot of people have a morning and night routine that help them stay intact with what needs to be done. Morning routines usually prepare people to get ready for their day, and after the day is through, they begin a night routine to get them ready for bed.
According to Zapier.com, “…routines in the morning and the evening set you up for success. They enable you to accomplish more, think clearly, and complete work that is truly important.”
They ensure you complete the most crucial tasks and prevent you from fumbling through your day. All it takes is a little bit of self-control and some successful routines. Junior, Malak Sayed, explains how she knows her body well enough to know when she needs to take a mental health day.
“I know school is very important, but there are times when I need that day off,” said Sayed. “ I just take care of myself as I rest, it’s literally just a day I get everything done with no rush.”
On those days off, people can make sure to do things that help settle their mind and mood.
Self-care is a personal matter, there is no one way to do it. Whichever way you choose is what’s most effective for you.
You and your peers have distinct sources of inspiration and motivation. It’s best to always find the things that give you a sense of life and to find time with yourself.
When you promise to work out or do something for yourself, follow your word. Don’t abandon yourself, just as we wouldn’t abandon our friends and family.
Once you take the time to take care of yourself, you will feel more prepared to assist others and deal with all of life’s adventures.
Take a moment, assess yourself and if you need to, practice some self care.
