What the end means for us

What the end means for us

Summer is around the corner, which means that this unpredictable school year is almost done. After witnessing many students catch COVID, having to adjust to temporary remote learning again, and time moving incredibly fast, teachers and students alike can agree that this was a peculiar school year.

During this time, the only thing most students are concerned about is the last day of school. However, for seniors, the last day of school is obviously different. While underclassmen get to anticipate their next year in high school, seniors are spending their time figuring out where they will be in the fall. Whether or not a person continues their education after high school, this is a difficult time for people, emotionally.

The end of the 2021-2022 school year is a sentimental time for many. This especially applies for 12th graders because this is the year before their actual life begins. Most seniors spend their last year of high school preparing for the next chapter of their lives. Sage Carson, a senior attending UACHS, agrees with this statement based on her reflection of her year.

“I do spend a lot of time thinking about how my life will be in September. I know which college I am going to, but it is still a lot to handle, and it can be stressful,” Carson said.

Other 12th graders have a better feeling about the year ending. The last few months of the school year causes seniors to anticipate upcoming events, such as prom and graduation. Some seniors are not as stressed out about moving on in life after high school. Alexandria Nunez, a senior at County Prep High School, is one of them.

“I am looking forward to looking good at graduation and taking the next step forward in life. Of course it is scary, but everyone ends up doing it, so there is no point in wasting time stressing about it, Nunez said.

This is an emotional year for everyone. Dependent on where a student is in their education, they are likely to handle the coming year differently. This is the end of an era for everyone. Underclassmen are excited to experience highschool in a less restricted environment as the state restrictions are reduced, seniors are preparing themselves for a completely new situation, and everyone is ready to say goodbye to the 2022 school year.
