The wait is over, the new 2K has finally dropped! Let’s GOO! While it is great that a new 2K game came out, don’t get overly excited before you are disappointed by a mediocre to trash game. 

NBA 2k22 is a basketball game created by the developers in Visual Concepts and they have a little ego of disappointing its fans. It has been creating basketball video games for many years. Each year they make a new game with slightly different features, and new player ratings. The past couple of years the game hasn’t quite surprised or interested its fans. It has a long history of copy and pasting the same game from the previous year. However, this year’s game looks tempting. Kevin Bustadad, a gamer that has been playing for a couple of years, says his opinion on the game.

“The game finally feels new and different compared to the previous years, I would recommend this to my friends,” said Bustadad.

This year there were major changes. They have changed the park, the myplayer builder, they added new badges, new shoes, and even a new shot meter. There have been many changes that regular players have been waiting for. Despite new changes, the developers are finally giving the people what they want. Joshua Sosa, a freshman, after trying the game out, says his opinion. 

“It is enjoyable, it keeps you playing with the new rewards that you want to get,” said Sosa.

The game was rated a 7/10 from IGN and the previous year 6/10. Many people, including people who create Youtube videos, that make money from the game, really enjoy this year’s game. There are content creators that stopped playing for months due to not enjoying the game, with the release of 2K22 they are now coming back to the community. However, while there are a lot of positives, many elements of the game some are not enjoying. 

“I feel like the game is pay to win. It’s a great game that just needs to make overall grinding easier. I also think it’s really easy to shoot,” said Bustadad. 

 Pay to win is a huge factor in why videogames are not being enjoyed today. Pay to win is when you have to buy or waste money for in-game items in order to be able to play the game at the highest level against other players. You have to spend long nights and a lot of time grinding the game to get currency to upgrade your player, or you have to spend $50 or more to complete the process faster. Nothing is perfect, it’s a great game, but there are always some things missing or that need to be fixed. 

Despite the game being pay to win, many people will have fun playing the game this year with their friends. The most important element out of all of these is that the game feels new and not like its predecessors, where the developers didn’t spend much time creating it. Hopefully we will all be able to enjoy a great basketball game for a long period of time.
