Love Yourself Before Anyone Else

Kaylin Khusial

Too often I find myself in a dark hole and in this hole I am unable to experience genuine happiness. At the end of the day, nobody can pull me out of the hole but myself and to do that you need to have self-love.
Loving yourself is key to ensuring not only your happiness but your well-being as a whole.
It is crucial to realize your worth and to never underestimate yourself. Do not allow others to define you or your happiness.
According to oneheartconnection.org, there are scientific-based reasons on why you should love yourself. “Accepting yourself can make you happier. It could encourage you to reach those health goals. Self-compassion may help with mental health issues. It can push you to stop procrastinating. Loving yourself can lead you through adversity.”
Without self-love, getting past hardships and difficulties such as family problems, relationship problems, and withstanding adversity becomes extremely difficult. Maintaining healthy relationships with yourself or others can become difficult as well.
An anonymous person adds her reason and solution for her relationship problems.
“In my relationship, I did not love myself. Along with the misunderstandings and petty arguments and me not being happy only added on to the turmoil of the relationship. I decided to end it and focus on myself and my happiness for once,” she said.
Everybody is different, so there is no single way to begin the process of loving yourself. Here are some ways to get started:
Forgive yourself. You cannot move forward unless you deal with everything head on.
You attract what you put into this world. Put in positive energy into the world and you will receive positive in return.
Learn to be confident in the way you look. Buy clothes/accessories that fit your style.
Do what you love. Find a hobby or passion and pursue it every day. Give yourself purpose.
Remove the toxicity from your life. Surround yourself with great, positive energy.
Be productive.
Smile. Be optimistic. Look at life on the bright side. Find peace with your pain.
All it takes is self-realization at first. Sit back and reflect on what is holding you back. Then, take action to guide you towards your genuine happiness every day. Let go of whatever is holding you back. Add value to your life. Incorporate daily affirmations into your life. Start your day off by looking into the mirror and saying “I am so happy and grateful now that…” Your life is a reflection of your perception.
Loving yourself and finding peace with all the noise in your life doesn’t happen overnight. It can take weeks, months, or even years. With time and effort, you will be steps closer to being genuinely happy. Always remember that your life is a reflection of your perception. The only thing holding you back is you!
