This year’s Lady Generals basketball team has a new face at the head coach position.
Damon Ambrosio is leading the way for the 2019-2020 season and he comes with experience as both an athlete and a coach.
“ When I attended Greenville high school I was a multi-sport athlete which included basketball,” said Ambrosio.
As a basketball coach Ambrosio has coached on many levels and has experience with athletes in a wide range of ages.
“ In my many years of coaching I have coached at the college level, highschool level, and I was an Amateur Athletic Union coach.” said Ambrosio.
Ambrosio believes coaching a sport at UACHS gives him the opportunity to bond and get to know students better.
“Looking in the halls and seeing teachers have bonds with students and feeling comfortable enough to have good conversations with a teacher, is something I want to have with my players,” said Ambrosio.
After several losing seasons, the Lady Generals are eager to start winning. Senior Ayanna Green, former starter and now manager, explains what would make the team successful in her eyes.
“I feel like if the team was more together as a team and family we would be more successful,” said Green.
Like every coach, Ambrosio hopes that his team can fill up the win column.
“ This year I plan to incorporate some stuff that could very well lead to a better season,” said Ambrosio.
He also wants to make sure his players enjoy their time together and have memorable experiences.
“ One of the things I feel I really bring to a team as a coach is excitement,” said Ambrosio. “I want to ensure that the players on this team have fun, and enjoy being a part of it.”
Look out for this year’s Lady Generals. With Ambrosio’s experience and work building team relationships these ladies are sure to add on to their win total.
