In the beginning of a new school year, many students enter a new chapter in their life. Whether it is your first time at a new school or you are returning for your final year, it is a thrilling period in time where you are making new friends, building new relationships, and creating unforgettable memories. With a new bookbag and new shoes to start this new journey, it seems as though nothing can go wrong.
That is until the fourth or fifth week rolls around where that excitement dies out and the thought of being in the same dull classes for six hours is grueling. You think to yourself, “how aam I meant to do this for the next nine months?” The answer is a lot closer than you would think.
As cliche as it may sound, the answer is within yourself. What you choose to make out of the school year will determine whether or not you will have a good year. Do not misunderstand that in order to have a good year all of your focus should be on having fun because then you will be miserable about your academics. But then again, do not only focus on your studies and prohibit yourself from making new friends and creating new memories. Many students make that mistake and focus on either one or the other. It is very possible to find a good balance between the two, and once that balance is created, there is nothing stopping you from having a perfect school year.
Be bold and make new friends when you get the chance. Try to get to know the people around you as they will be your support system when times get hard. Once a week, make plans, go out and have fun. The rest of the time should be spent focusing on your academics, as that is the priority.
There will always be hardships throughout the school year, times where you feel the need to give up, but giving up will take you nowhere. At the start of the school year, create a good work ethic, have ambition, determination, and confidence in yourself that you will be able to get through those obstacles. This mindset will only make school and life easier so it is best to develop that now.
Before you know, it will be winter break, then spring break, and it will be summer break all over again. Do not take your time at school for granted, you will regret it. Get a good education, do your best in your classes, create new and everlasting memories. You are at school more than you are at home, so make the most of your time there, create an environment for yourself to excel. Create that environment now.
