Hip Hop throughout 2024 feels like a pulse has been restored to a sleeping giant. Whether it is the albums or the competitive nature of participants, Hip Hop has been surging with overall creativity and life.
Since the beginning of the year, Hip Hop fans have received what is arguably great music. From March up until now, the West Coast has single handedly resurrected Hip Hop from the dead.
In October of 2023 when “For All the Dogs” dropped listeners knew something was going to happen. With subliminal shots at Kendrick from Drake and J cole. Kendrick responded and from then on, music was set ablaze.
There has been a new wave of art, lyricism and overall quality projects that are sensational. Artists are dropping great music while arguably one of the most anticipated rap beefs is unfolding before our very eyes.
Before the big uproar of beef we got the return of another TDE artist ScHoolboy Q. He has not dropped an album since his 2019 LP “CrasH Talk.” Fans eagerly anticipated another drop from the ScHoolboy. Fortunately he gave his fans the LP “BLUE LIPS” this year on the first day of March.
Three weeks later Kendrick sends his much anticipated shot back to Drake. Leading to a Drake and Kendrick war.
Hip Hop witnessed Kendrick dominate the battle the entire time. From Drake antagonizing Kendrick on social media and baiting him to drop. Followed by Drake bowing out of the battle. Kendrick drops were well calculated, even dropping “Meet The Grahams” within an hour of the anticipated “Family Matters.” Lastly, dropping the nuclear hit “Not Like Us.”
In November Kendrick dropped “GNX,” his sixth and critically acclaimed album. Announced as this year’s Super Bowl Halftime entertainment once again, Kendrick is putting Hip Hop out there for the masses.
For many, the state of Hip Hop has been worrisome for some time. All the artists are either copying each other or they lack originality. However, the Kendrick and Drake beef proves that there’s life in there still. Welcome back Hip Hop and thank you West Coast.
