Since the second half of last school year, UACHS gained a phenomenal educator. You see her all over the school, in a multitude of teacher’s rooms helping students do their best. If you have been lucky to receive her help you know how knowledgeable she is and how she is always willing to help a student in need.
Attending Bennett College and graduating from NJCU with a masters in education, Kelly Lyons is an important asset here at UACHS. She helps students who are in need and goes beyond just being helpful in the classroom.
Working in education for twenty-five years and teaching for nineteen, her ambition to have her students reach their full learning potential allows her to create a welcoming and motivated environment wherever she is.
Before joining the education field, Lyons wanted to work as an FBI agent, but slowly felt a calling towards education after an encounter in college.
“I read the book, “The Miseducation of a Negro” while I was in Bennett College,” said Lyons. “The way my teacher taught the book inspired me.”
Lyons did not start in a high school setting. However, she always knew it was something she was eager to do. Lyons allowed her energy and spirit to manifest a high school that was a suitable fit for her.“I believe in manifesting what you want, so I meditated on it,” said Lyons. “Shortly after, I applied to an agency, the agency had high school resources, and I accepted the job here through the agency.”
Teaching is a stressful job and peace is not something that is necessarily experienced especially in a high school setting. Lyons’ way of winding down is by working out, in order to keep her mind and body healthy. She also encourages and teaches workouts to others, helping them feel better about themselves on a physical and emotional level.
It is obvious that Lyons cares for her job and her students. She wants them to succeed in life. “I want my students to understand that I am here for them,” said Lyons. “I am here to help them with school, information, or in any way they are comfortable with.”
