If you have been in the second floor center hallway, you may have heard the sounds of a robot zooming by in the morning. You may have also wondered who is behind this new gadget this year.
Miguel De La Fuente, our new robotics, engineering, and computer science teacher, is the man behind the machine. Educated at Kean University in engineering electronics, De La Fuente considers himself a master in his craft.
“I consider myself to be a professional mechanic,” said De La Fuente. “I know how to rewire a whole building and read blueprints for a house.”
His knowledge in robotics, engineering, and computer science comes from his twenty years of experience in the field as well as, honing a lot of his skills in his youth from his father.
It all began with learning a bit of home improvement and mechanical management from his father in his teen years. Seeing the value in having learned these skills early in life, he decided to do the same for his children.
“I used to work a lot and do electrical work with my father when I was in high school,” said De La Fuente. “It is now something I teach my children; even my daughter, who is seven, loves doing mechanical science.”
Engineering is a large part of the De La Fuente family and due to this he hopes to instill this passion in others. Working here at UACHS to him means finding students that have the same desire to learn engineering, robotics, and computer science, like he did many years ago. By using his experience and knowledge, he hopes that students begin to catch on and continue in the field.
“I wish I could help as many students get into engineering,” said De La Fuente. “I want them to see me as a friend.”
In his view, engineering is an opportunity and with his extensive knowledge, he hopes to inspire students to continue on this path. If your curiosity leads you to engineering, then De La Fuente is a good place to start.
