As winter break is approaching and the windy cold air sweeps in, you might be thinking about how to make the most of your time. With the winter weather settling in and the holiday season brightening up people’s spirits, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the winter season. Whether it is indoors or outdoors; there are tons of fun things to do.
For those who love being socially active, snowboarding and ice skating are the perfect outdoor activities. The thrill of gliding across the ice at a local rink or speeding down snow-covered mountains, energizes the cold air and one’s feelings every moment. Of course, it will be chilly outside, but the fun experience of going down a slope or sliding across the ice makes you forget about the cold.
Mohamed Gueye, a student at UACHS, describes how his first time ice skating was an unforgettable outdoor winter experience.
“One of my favorite ways to enjoy the winter season is ice skating outdoors with friends because it’s always such a fun and enjoyable experience,” said Gueye. “We end up laughing so much, especially when someone loses their balance, it’s just the best way to create memories together.”
Winter itself isn’t all just about outdoor adventures and activities. If you would rather stay inside and enjoy the warmth, crafting festive decor, or baking seasonal treats like gingerbread cookies, are perfect ways to consume time. Not only do these activities allow time to pass, but they also help you find your creative side, bond with your loved ones, and be in the moment with the warm sweet smells of winter.
UACHS senior, Denny Almario, expresses how winter break for the majority of the time isn’t always about spending time outdoors, trying to make time pass by.
“Personally, I prefer indoor activities because the feeling of winter temperature while doing indoor activities feels jolly and comfortable, rather than being outdoors trying to make time go faster,” said Almario. “Staying indoors isn’t bad at all since there are more things to do to consume time such as watching holiday movies.”
Movie nights with friends or family is another great way to have a laid-back evening. Cozying up in soft blankets, sipping hot cocoa, and watching your favorite winter movies helps to set the mood for the season. Whether it is a thriller movie or just a heartwarming holiday classic, the combination of enjoying a film with cozy vibes can be just as appealing as any typical outdoor adventure.
So, if you are skating away on ice, crafting with loved ones, or snuggling in for a movie night, there are plenty of ways to make this winter break memorable. It’s not just about the activities themselves, but the memories that you will cherish forever. Before the break ends, take some time to try something relaxing, new, and enjoy the season.
