From pastime to profession, Alexander Lepine has been interested in teaching since he was a child. Something that was once a hobby, has now transformed into his lifelong career.
Due to his profound love for education, he knew from an early age that he wanted to teach. Over time, this belief was strengthened by the support he received from those around him, especially his family.
“My family was extremely supportive,” said Lepine. “Sometimes people look down on teaching and they’re like, ‘Oh, you could do so much more,’ when honestly I never subscribed to that.”
With such an optimistic outlook from his parents, Lepine was grateful that they never looked down on his ideal career path. It was through their early love and support that he fostered a love for learning and believes that this is something important to instill in students in order for them to succeed and gain personal growth.
After graduating from Rowan University, where he participated in an accelerated teaching program, Lepine became a student teacher at age 21.
He started teaching in middle school, initially uncertain about the age group, but quickly discovered the incredible potential of his seventh graders. Their intelligence and kindness opened his eyes to the joys of teaching. Now, entering his fourth year of teaching, he is one of the freshman English teachers and is also teaching film and literature to upperclassmen.
“I think teaching is one of the best,” said Lepine. “You can give so much to others with teaching, you can change so many lives.”
By following his passion, Lepine believes he will help and inspire others to be their best and achieve more.
“I am a teacher because I want to help people,” said Lepine. “That kind of motivated me to be the best that I can be; there’s no other job that I would want to do.”
