With all of the new additions this fall which include security, new courses, and new teachers, amongst the new faces there is one familiar name that has some students in a bit of confusion, yet, filled with interest.
Maegan Prout, is bringing her love of acting, English literature, and creative thinking to UACHS.
Prout has been teaching for about 15 years before joining the general’s staff. Previously, she worked at JobCorps, teaching young adults English, while also incorporating acting into her lessons.
Before coming here, she expressed that she wasn’t sure whether she was ready to come back into a high school environment.
“I was very nervous about going back into the traditional school setting, but my brother encouraged me that I wouldn’t experience any of the hardship I experienced at my old school, ” said Prout. “Due to my brother’s encouragement, I applied.”
Coming back into a high school environment after being away for a while isn’t always the easiest, but it is something she was willing to re-enter for a change of scenery.
Her admiration for theater and acting made her a natural fit for the new course, Play in Performance. She also teaches Professional Writing and English II, but acting is the one thing she is most passionate about.
“ In my class I want my students to feel respected, and I want them to feel like they can achieve,” said Prout. “I want them to feel confident in their abilities, to feel like they’ve learned something, and being with me hasn’t been a waste of their time.”
Prout strives to motivate her students as best as she can. She hopes to get them out of their comfort zone when it comes to acting and her English classes. She wants to instill in them a love of literature, reading and writing.
