UACHS is on the rise; first athletics and now academics. As of September 2024,
new classes will be implemented into the curriculum in order to help students strive towards a brighter future.
From five new STEAM classes, to expanding the history department; UACHS is
centralizing their academics around student interest.
In order to have an effective course list by September, administrators are currently taking an interest survey amongst current students.
Principal Erie Lugo, expands on what students should look forward to come September in terms of new class options.
“A complaint I often get is that there is not enough career-based education going on in the building,” said Lugo. “So, we will be adding an agricultural science, drone, computer repair, and an engineering I class that will be followed by an Engineering II class.”
While UACHS is looking to expand all departments across the board, the North Side
of the building will be utilized for more hands-on learning.
The new classrooms will be utilized for a soundproof music room, laser printers, laser cutters, 3D printers, a woodworking station and a soldering station. Overall, there will be more opportunities for building a pathway towards future careers.
“First, we are going to let next year’s seniors have top priority so they can take
advantage of opportunities while they are here,” said Lugo. “However, we are also going to make classes 2.5 credits so that students have more room in schedules to try new classes so that those underclassmen can make something out of it.”
Although it may have taken time for UACHS students to see change,
action is finally being taken in their favor. Gone are the days of people feeling that the school is not up to date with the times. We have finally taken the time and made the space to truly build tomorrow’s leaders.
