Deshawn Tyler, transitioning from a former UACHS student to a coach, has now taken on the role of a teacher and is eager to join a new team.
Growing up in Greenville, New Jersey primarily raised by his mother, Tyler found his true self while playing football.
“I have always had a love for football since I was in high school,” said Tyler. “Although I went to UACHS, I played at Snyder and had family that attended the school too, so it feels like home.”
From there, Tyler converted a hobby into a passion. He is currently an offensive coordinator and coach for Henry Snyder High School.
He attended Cheyney University of Pennsylvania with an academic scholarship and played football as a fullback for the Cheyney Wolves. Graduating in 2019, with a degree in business administration with a concentration in management and a minor in hospitality.
Outside of his family at UACHS and Snyder, Tyler has one to call his own. Although his day is filled with chaos, he takes pride in what he does. He is a father of two children soon to be three in a few weeks with his longtime girlfriend. Tyler has made sure to not repeat history and ensures that he is present in his kids’ lives.
“I teach in the daytime, I coach in the afternoon and I cut hair at night,” said Tyler. “Then go home and be a family man.”
Now, as of this October, he will be substituting as the new financial literacy teacher for Michael Prout, who has to return to active military duty. This will be Tyler’s first time returning to UACHS since he graduated back in 2015. With taking on a new role in the building, Tyler hopes that he can create a bond with his students, while still being able to educate them to the full extent.
“I am an adult and expect to be taken seriously as one, but I like to think I am easy to work with since I am a very chill guy,” said Tyler. “I construct it as being respected like a father and also trusted as an older brother.”
