Class starts at eight on the dot, and if you think leaving your house at 7:30 am will ensure that you will be in class on time, think again. It is a new year at UACHS and as usual there are new rules and new policies being introduced. Wrapped with a big bow on top, the school has presented their gift to the students in the shape of metal detectors.
As if you are at the airport, you are welcomed into the building with security firmly addressing you to empty out your pockets, put everything in your bag or you listen to the constant ringing of the metal detectors that will shout at you.
This is the perfect way to start your morning!
The decision to incorporate metal detectors was made with good intentions. They are in place to prevent any weapons that could possibly enter the building, creating a safe environment for all and ensuring that staff and students are safe.
After the mishaps that occurred years prior, resulting in numerous shelters in places and possible weapons in the radius of the school, it was necessary to take this extreme measure.
If you are someone who tends to go to school tardy, get your life together because a decent portion of your day will be spent on line waiting for your turn to pass through.
Justifiably, there are good reasons as to why the safety precautions are strictly enforced this year, in contrast to what occurred the years prior due to the lenient security. As much of an inconvenience as it may be to our mornings, it is a necessity.
You are also greeted bright and early by administrators not only howling at you to move steadily through the lines, but checking for uniform as well. Aside from this there is also the door to door checking for uniforms to ensure that students are adhering to dress code.
It may be bothersome now, but as the school year progresses, the metal detectors and reminders to be in uniform will become a normal part of your daily routine. Perhaps this will ensure that our school stays safe and that students follow policy and procedure.
