The American people must do better in picking our presidential candidates.

Early on the morning of November 9, Donald J. Trump was officially announced as the winner of the presidency. Most of the world and America is in shock, and the people are having mixed emotions. Who do we have to blame? Ourselves.

Trump shouldn’t have been elected. Trump has often been carefree with his choice of words, which could be detrimental for this country’s upward mobility.

In an August 5 interview with CNN, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump commented on the way Megyn Kelly who is an American journalist on the Fox News questioned him during the Republican presidential debate the day before.

“You could see there was blood coming out from her eyes, blood coming out of her whatever,” Trump said.

Another reason for concern is that he has little respect for certain groups of people in this country, particularly immigrants.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best, they’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” Trump said in his announcement speech in June 2015.

First Lady Michelle Obama  called out Trump for his use of profane and obscene language about women in a speech at La Salle University in Philadelphia on September 28.

“We have a candidate for president who over the course of his lifetime and the course of his campaign has said things about women so shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And I can’t believe that I’m saying that a candidate for President of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women,” Obama said.

We can’t accept Trump as the man who represents America and its people. Trump’s comments are hurtful to the citizens and are controversial. Not only that but his brutal honesty and inflated ego make a bad combination for someone who will be president soon.

The American people must realize their mistakes in choosing this candidate. For now, the people must deal with with Trump’s presidency and learn to choose a better candidate for the sake of America’s future.
