The Lady Generals are looking forward to a successful season with new and returning players and a new division.

Coach David Yura said he is happy that senior Dezire Brown is returning after being being injured last year.

“We are an older team now, with more experience at the varsity level,” Yura said.

He said he is also looking forward to playing in a new division.

“The league’s divisions have changed, and it’s going to be a competitive division,’’ Yura said.

Senior Dezire Brown, who returns as guard , also said that playing in the new division will be a good thing.

“The team has a better advantage being in the second division to learn from our mistakes,” Brown said.

Players are practicing and training not only with Yura but also on their own time.

“I am practicing everyday during gym to prepare herself to be better,” power forward Jamilet Leonardo, junior, said.

Shooting guard Giselle Galarza, junior, said she is “looking forward to seeing the new freshmen and how they can contribute.”

Freshman Dymin Wright said that this year should be good for her first season.

“We are going to win this year because of the coaching Yura is providing, and the players’ individual talents coming as a whole,” Wright said.

Wright said the team is her family and helps her with things she has problems with off the court too.

“They don’t only help me on the court, but off as well,” Wright said. “They tell me to stay out of trouble and keep focused.”
