Choir teacher Laura Di Puma and her students will perform a holiday concert featuring a mix of pop and rock songs December 8. The concert, which will be held at New Jersey City University’s Margaret Williams Theatre at 7:30 p.m., is going to be “super exciting and fun,” DiPuma said.

Di Puma and some of the choir students are excited for the upcoming concert, while others said they are worried about not being fully prepared.

According to Di Puma, the choir is going to sing traditional holiday carols as well as songs from Adele, Bruno Mars, “The Hunger Games” soundtrack, Taylor Swift and Great World.

Junior soloist Haley Ortiz said that she is “looking forward to choir,” especially since the school didn’t have a music program last year.

“I think it’s really good choir is back because there are kids with talent, and we can show that there’s more to us just than sports and academics,” Ortiz said. “It makes me feel happy to sing because I was born into music, not sports.”

Junior soloist Trinity Griffin said that she is “not looking forward to the concert.”

”I feel like everyone is not ready. DiPuma’s underclassmen aren’t ready like the upperclassmen students,” Griffin said.

Senior soloist Juwan Richardson, who will be singing “Just the Way You Are” and “Total Praise,” said that he’s “half-and-half ready, but I’m nervous.”

“Having choir gives me a chance to express myself and for us choir students to have an opinion on what choir is and what goes on.”
