Preparing for the senior prom and sophomore/junior formal can be stressful. Whether it’s finding a dress, a tuxedo, some shoes or heels, everything must be perfect or at least come together. Finding an affordable limo that meets your standards, and finding people willing to split the cost with you, could be the hardest things to tackle.
According to a 2011 study from BeingGirl.com, six weeks before prom you should have already picked out a dress, planned a hair-do and booked a limo “because those are the hardest things to do.”
PromsPlus.com tells guys that they should “ask they’re parents how much they are willing to contribute” 16 weeks before prom and “ask or find a date to go with you.”
Sophomore Imari Faulkner said that she is planning on getting her dress sometime in April because “it’s just a sophomore formal.”
For the sophomore/junior formal, stores such as Forever 21 and Joyce Leslie have affordable dresses that females can buy and still have money left over.
For senior prom, stores such as Deluxe Formal Wear in Clifton, NJ, have tuxedos that guys can rent or buy at affordable prices and also shoes and ties that you can mix and match.
For girls, there are many boutiques in Brick, N.J., such as Nicole’s Boutique, that have customized dresses. Also, La’Belles Boutique on Danforth Avenue in Jersey City has gorgeous dresses that will give ladies an elegant look.
Senior Tori Wallace said that promgirl.com has “a lot of nice dresses.”
Sophomore Kendra Winston said that she has not reserved her limo and is undecided whether or not she is going to get one.
EZ Car & Limousine Services, located at 290 Hoboken Avenue in Jersey City, charges $65-70 per hour for limousine services to prom. Downtown Limousine & Car Service, located at 473 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City, charges $399 for five hours for a stretch limousine, including tolls and gratuity, and an $68 for extra hours.
Junior Nichelle Alexander said she is excited for prom.
“You are only a junior once,” Alexander said. “You are never going to get the experience again.”
To the juniors, senior Nyia Stuckey said that the junior formal is “not that serious.”
“When senior prom comes around, that is when all the money is being spent,” Stuckey said.
PromDresses2011.com suggests activites such as bowling, renting out a pizza parlor for the night, or “heading to a friends house to play games” and reminisce as fun things to do after prom.
Not only female students are excited for prom. Senior Abdul-Hineef Adams said that “it is the last time you could party with your friends.”
“This prom is something that you could never get back,” Adams said. “This is the time that every thing is most memorable.”
